You have checked every pocket twice, gone back through the yard, pulled the seats forward, and dumped the grain truck's cup holder out onto the hood. The fob is gone, and it was the only one. Now the vehicle is sitting there fully functional and completely useless, and you are trying to work out how much trouble you are actually in.

The short answer is that this is fixable, and that it is a bigger job than most people expect, because a modern fob is not a part you simply buy. It has to be registered to your specific vehicle before the engine will run, and since about 2019 the manufacturer controls who is allowed to do that registering.
