The Jeep Cherokee is the hybrid Jeep that Jeep Canada calls a mid size SUV, and Stellantis Canada names one powertrain for the 2027 Cherokee, a 1.6 litre turbo hybrid, with a towing capacity of 1,587 kg (3,500 lb). That makes it the Jeep for a buyer who wants better fuel numbers on a Highway 1 run into Winnipeg, no plug to find, and Jeep Active Drive for the grid road home. Below are the 2027 trims sold in Canada, the hybrid powertrain, the 4x4 systems, towing, and our read on which build suits a Manitoba winter, a commute or a trailer. The 2027 Changes in Brief

The current Cherokee was introduced as all new for the 2026 model year. Stellantis Canada's September 30 and October 16, 2026 releases on the 2027 Cherokee list these changes:

  • The Trailhawk joins the lineup as a Trail Rated model, with Jeep Active Drive II, an electronic locking rear axle and a two speed power transfer unit.
  • Two new Altitude models, the Laredo Altitude and the Limited Altitude, bring 18 inch gloss black aluminum wheels and gloss black exterior accents and badges.
  • Fathom Blue is a new exterior colour, and Ghost, Copper Shino and Goldilocks are new colours marked late availability.

The October 16 release names the 1.6 litre turbo hybrid as the 2027 Cherokee's powertrain and lists no other engine.

Jeep Cherokee Trims Sold in Canada

Stellantis Canada's October 16, 2026 release lists these 2027 Cherokee models: Cherokee, Laredo, Laredo Altitude, Limited, Limited Altitude, Trailhawk and Overland, with the Laredo Altitude, Limited Altitude and Trailhawk marked new. The entry model is called simply the Cherokee. Each block below says who the trim suits and the equipment Stellantis Canada lists for it. The window sticker on the Cherokee in front of you is the final word on how that unit was built.

The 2027 Lineup at a Glance

Stellantis Canada's October 16, 2026 release names one powertrain for the 2027 Cherokee, so it fills the middle column for each model; 4x4 systems are listed only where a Canadian source names one for that trim.

Cherokee

The Cherokee is the entry model, and it already carries the basics for a Manitoba winter. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 Cherokee lists the 1.6 litre four cylinder turbo hybrid with an electronic continuously variable transmission (eCVT), Jeep Active Drive I and the Selec-Terrain traction management system. It lists 17 inch wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps, power heated mirrors and rain sensing wipers. Inside, it lists seating for five, premium cloth seats with heated front seats, dual zone automatic temperature control and Uconnect 5 with a 12.3 inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Its safety list includes nine airbags, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, blind spot monitoring with rear cross path detection and pedestrian and cyclist emergency braking. Heated front seats on the entry model are the first thing you will thank on a minus 30 morning in the rink parking lot.

Laredo

The Laredo is the Cherokee for the winter commuter. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 Laredo adds a heated steering wheel, a remote start system and a windshield wiper de-icer over the Cherokee. It also adds LED front fog lamps, embossed cloth seats, an eight way power driver's seat with power lumbar adjust and second row USB C charging ports. Remote start and the wiper de-icer earn their keep on a January morning after the Cherokee has sat outside all night.

Laredo Altitude and Limited Altitude

Both are new for 2027. Stellantis Canada's October 16, 2026 release gives each 18 inch gloss black aluminum wheels and gloss black exterior accents and badges. It lists Capri leatherette seats with suede inserts on the Laredo Altitude, and a gloss black painted roof on the Limited Altitude, which the release says bundles popular Limited trim features. Neither source sets out the rest of their equipment line by line, so the window sticker is the list for a given unit.

Limited

The Limited is where the family conveniences come in. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 Limited adds a power liftgate, perforated Capri leatherette seats and a six way power front passenger seat with power lumbar adjust over the Laredo. It also adds multi function fold away mirrors with turn signals and courtesy lamps, a wireless charging pad, an auto dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener and a security alarm. The power liftgate is the one you notice when your arms are full of groceries and the curb is a snowbank.

Trailhawk

The Trailhawk is new for 2027, and it is the Cherokee for the buyer whose driveway is gravel. Stellantis Canada's September 30, 2026 release says it debuts Trail Rated capability. It lists Jeep Active Drive II with an electronic locking rear axle, and a two speed power transfer unit, which the release calls class exclusive, with a 2.92 low range ratio and a 37.5:1 crawl ratio. It also lists an off road suspension with a 2.5 cm (1 inch) lift and 17 inch wheels on 245/65R17 Nexen Rodian ATX all terrain tires. Steel skid plates protect the front axle, wiring and fuel tank, a protection plate covers the hybrid battery, and red tow hooks sit front and rear. The release lists Selec-Terrain with five settings: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud and Rock.

Among the Trailhawk's equipment, the same release lists fog lamps, power heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a foot activated power liftgate, and memory seating and mirrors. It lists three option packages: Sun and Sound, with a dual pane sunroof and premium Alpine audio; a trailering package; and the Advanced Pro Tech Group, with ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, front and rear camera washers and a 360 degree camera. Stellantis Canada's October 16 release lists a Mantis Green interior as exclusive to the Trailhawk and lists the Trailhawk as flat tow capable. The September 30 release said Canadian customers would be able to place orders later in 2026, so ask our team whether one can be ordered and when it would land. Low range is what you want pulling a boat up a slick ramp at Delta Beach on Lake Manitoba.

Overland

The Overland is the Cherokee dressed for highway comfort. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 Overland adds 20 inch wheels, a dual pane panoramic sunroof, a hands free power liftgate and exterior mirrors with memory over the Limited. Inside, it adds an eight way power front passenger seat with power lumbar adjust, memory for the driver's seat, radio, mirrors and climate controls, and a 115 volt auxiliary power outlet. It also adds a premium Alpine audio system with nine amplified speakers including a subwoofer, Uconnect 5 NAV with a 12.3 inch touchscreen, front and rear park assist with stop, and side distance warning. Front park assist is the one you notice nosing into a spot between two snowbanks.

The Hybrid Powertrain and Four Wheel Drive

Stellantis Canada's October 16, 2026 release names one powertrain for the 2027 Cherokee, and it names no plug in hybrid or 4xe.

1.6 litre turbo hybrid. According to Stellantis Canada, it is a 1.6 litre four cylinder turbo hybrid making 210 horsepower and 230 lb ft of torque, paired with an eCVT and a 550 volt maintenance free battery. Stellantis Canada's September 30, 2026 release also gives it 210 horsepower. Jeep Canada's 2027 Cherokee page describes regenerative braking that recharges while you drive, so there is nothing to plug in at night.

Fuel and range. Stellantis Canada's October 16, 2026 release gives the 2027 Cherokee up to 6.3 L/100 km combined, including 6.1 L/100 km city, and up to 800 km on a single tank. Jeep Canada's 2027 page says the 800 km figure is an estimate based on EnerGuide combined ratings, tank capacity, a full battery charge and hybrid mode, and that in sub ideal conditions actual range will vary, and may vary significantly. The September 30 release gives the Trailhawk a Jeep brand estimated 7.5 L/100 km combined. Natural Resources Canada publishes fuel consumption ratings by model year in its fuel consumption ratings search tool, which is where a 2027 Cherokee's official ratings are looked up.

4x4 systems. Jeep Canada's 2027 Cherokee page describes Jeep Active Drive as a fully automatic all wheel drive system that shifts power between wheels, and according to Stellantis Canada the entry Cherokee lists Jeep Active Drive I, which it calls a 4x4 system. The Trailhawk steps up to Jeep Active Drive II with an electronic locking rear axle and a two speed power transfer unit, according to Stellantis Canada's September 30, 2026 release, which gives it low range. For the trims the table leaves to the sticker, the window sticker names the system on that unit. According to Stellantis Canada, the Selec-Terrain traction management system is on the entry Cherokee, and the September 30 release lists five Selec-Terrain settings on the Trailhawk, Rock included.

Towing, Ground Clearance and Fuel

Towing. Stellantis Canada's October 16, 2026 release gives the 2027 Cherokee a towing capacity of 1,587 kg (3,500 lb), which it calls unsurpassed. Jeep Canada's 2027 Cherokee page prints up to 1,587 kg (3,500 lb), more than any other hybrid electric mid size SUV. It bases that on FCA U.S. LLC's mid size hybrid electric utility vehicle segmentation, excluding internal combustion engine, plug in hybrid, mild hybrid and electric entrants. Stellantis Canada's September 30 release lists a trailering package among the Trailhawk's three option packages, for that 1,587 kg figure. It is a maximum, so ask our team for the rating on the exact Cherokee you are looking at.

Manitoba Public Insurance's Trailer Safety brochure says that if a trailer's registered gross vehicle weight is more than 1,360 kg (2,998 lb), the law says it must have brakes. That is under the Cherokee's 1,587 kg maximum, so a trailer registered anywhere near it needs its own brakes. Our Cherokee towing capacity guide walks through the 2026 hybrid's rating; for a 2027, ask our team for the rating on that unit.

Ground clearance. Stellantis Canada's September 30, 2026 release gives the Trailhawk 22.98 cm of ground clearance with its 2.5 cm (1 inch) lift. It gives approach, breakover and departure angles of 28.8, 21.9 and 31.8 degrees, and the October 16 release calls each of the three best in class for the Trailhawk. The September 30 release also gives the Trailhawk a water fording depth of 60.9 cm (24 inches), which it says no other SUV in its class offers; the October 16 release prints 60 cm (24 inches) when properly equipped. Jeep Canada's capability page, which still shows the 2026 Cherokee, gives that model 20.3 cm (8 inches) of ground clearance. Ask our team for the figure on the exact 2027 unit before you count on it in a drifted lane.

Fuel. The figures in the Hybrid Powertrain section above are Stellantis Canada's. To see what your own Cherokee does in a Manitoba winter, note the litres and kilometres on two fill ups in January and two in July, and compare.

The Manitoba Read

Here is how we would walk a buyer through the choice across the desk at Dunn Ram Trucks in Portage la Prairie.

Start with the road at the end of your driveway. If it is a grid road that turns to gumbo in April or drifts in by February, Stellantis Canada lists the Trailhawk with a 2.5 cm (1 inch) lift, all terrain tires, skid plates, an electronic locking rear axle and low range. If it is Highway 1 to Winnipeg every weekday, the Laredo and the Limited are where the money goes into things you use daily: remote start, a heated steering wheel, and on the Limited a power liftgate and a wireless charging pad. Our post on all wheel drive and four wheel drive in snow covers what the systems do on a Manitoba highway.

Then the tires. Jeep Active Drive helps a Cherokee get moving on a glazed field approach; winter tires help it stop and steer. According to Stellantis Canada, the entry Cherokee comes on 17 inch wheels, the two Altitude models on 18 inch wheels and the Overland on 20 inch wheels, so the winter set you shop for starts from the tire size on your Cherokee's door placard. We are a participating retailer in the MPI Winter Tire Program; if you qualify, you can apply for the program's financing with us, and Manitoba Public Insurance sets who is eligible. Manitoba Public Insurance says qualifying tires must display the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol and, effective October 1, 2026, "must also be designed and marketed solely for winter driving conditions, including snow and ice." Tires marketed as all weather, all season, four season or year round no longer qualify, even with that symbol.

Then the cold mornings. A Cherokee that lives outside at minus 30 needs a plan for the morning. According to Stellantis Canada, the entry Cherokee already lists heated front seats, and the Laredo adds remote start, a heated steering wheel and a windshield wiper de-icer. Before you sign, ask our team whether the unit's window sticker shows an engine block heater. Our service department installs block heaters, and you can book the installation with our service team.

Then the trailer. A snowmobile trailer with two sleds, an ice fishing shack for Lake Manitoba or a small camper for Spruce Woods in July is the kind of load to weigh loaded before the first trip. A Cherokee properly equipped for its 1,587 kg (3,500 lb) rating can do that kind of job, so ask our team for the rating on the exact unit before you hitch up. If the plan runs the other way, a Cherokee behind a motorhome, Stellantis Canada's October 16 release lists the Trailhawk as flat tow capable, so ask our team about a given unit before you set one up.

Jeep Cherokee Versus the Others

  • Against the Compass. Jeep Canada's 2027 Compass page calls the Compass a compact SUV and gives it up to 907 kg (2,000 lb) of towing, against 1,587 kg (3,500 lb) for the Cherokee on Jeep Canada's 2027 Cherokee page. To see the smaller Jeep, browse our new Jeep Compass inventory.
  • Against the Grand Cherokee. Stellantis Canada's August 12, 2026 release gives the 2027 Grand Cherokee up to 2,812 kg (6,200 lb) of towing when properly equipped, with a 3.6 litre V6 or a 2.0 litre Hurricane 4 Turbo and no 4xe named, where the Cherokee has its hybrid and 1,587 kg (3,500 lb). Our 2027 Jeep Grand Cherokee research page has the full lineup.
  • Against the Wrangler. Jeep Canada's 2027 Wrangler page gives the Wrangler up to 2,268 kg (5,000 lb) of available towing, against 1,587 kg (3,500 lb) for the Cherokee. Our 2027 Jeep Wrangler research page sets out its trims.

Stellantis Canada's October 16, 2026 release lists the Stellantis Toluca Assembly Complex as where the 2027 Cherokee is built. If the build you want is not listed, ask our team whether it can be ordered and when it would land.
