Blue 2027 Dodge Durango on a mountain highway, Dodge Canada photo

The Dodge Durango is a three row SUV with a V6 or a HEMI V8 under the hood, and Dodge Canada's 2027 Durango page gives it up to 3,946 kg (8,700 lb) of towing with a V8 when properly equipped. That makes it a family SUV for the drive to a hockey tournament in Brandon, and one that can pull the camper to the Whiteshell in July. Below are the 2027 trims sold in Canada, the engines, towing, and a first hand read on which build suits a Manitoba winter, a Highway 1 commute or a trailer. Dodge Durango Trims Sold in Canada

Dodge Canada's 2027 Durango page lists these models: SXT, GT, GT Plus, GT HEMI Plus, GT HEMI Premium, R/T 392 Plus, R/T 392 Premium and SRT Hellcat Jailbreak. Its cards write the two GT HEMI models as GT HEMI V8 Plus and GT HEMI V8 Premium. Each block below says who the model suits and the equipment Stellantis Canada lists for it. The window sticker on the Durango in front of you is the final word on how that unit was built.

SXT

Dodge Canada's 2027 configurator render of the Durango SXT

The SXT is the entry Durango, built around the V6 and five seats. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 SXT lists the 3.6 litre Pentastar V6 at 295 horsepower and 260 lb ft, an eight speed TorqueFlite automatic, and all wheel drive with a single speed transfer case. It lists 18 inch painted aluminum wheels on 265/60R18 all season tires, and cloth seating for five with a 60/40 split folding second row bench. Its comfort list includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, tri zone automatic temperature control and remote start. It also lists a power liftgate, blind spot monitoring with rear cross path detection and Uconnect 5 NAV with a 10.1 inch touchscreen. On a minus 30 morning before the school run, remote start and the heated wheel are the two you use first.

GT

Dodge Canada's 2027 configurator render of the Durango GT

The GT is the SXT with a third row. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 GT changes these items from the SXT: seven passenger seating, 20 inch Fine Silver aluminum wheels on 255/50R20 all season tires, and a GT liftgate badge. For a family that car pools to the rink, the third row is the reason to step up. Our Durango GT guide, written for the 2026 model year, goes further on the trim.

GT Plus

The GT Plus is the GT with the comfort and driver assistance equipment added. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 GT Plus lists Nappa leather trimmed seats, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second row seats, power 12 way front seats and a power sunroof. It also lists adaptive cruise control with stop, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, front and rear park assist, Alpine premium audio and a wireless charging pad. Heated second row seats earn their keep on the drive home from a late game in January.

3.6 litre Pentastar V6. 295 horsepower and 260 lb ft with an eight speed automatic, in the SXT, GT and GT Plus. Dodge Canada's 2027 Durango page lists it with Stop/Start.

6.2 litre supercharged HEMI V8. 710 horsepower and 645 lb ft, in the SRT Hellcat Jailbreak.

The window sticker shows the engine on the Durango in front of you.

All wheel drive. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 SXT, GT HEMI Plus and SRT Hellcat Jailbreak list all wheel drive, and the June 3 release pairs the R/T 392 Plus with standard all wheel drive. For the other models, the window sticker names the drive system on that Durango. What all wheel drive does and does not do in winter is under The Manitoba Read below.

Towing

Stellantis Canada's June 3, 2026 release gives these 2027 Durango towing figures:

  • V6 models: up to 2,812 kg (6,200 lb), which the release calls best in class for a V6.
  • GT HEMI: 3,265 kg (7,200 lb) as standard, and 3,946 kg (8,700 lb) with the available Tow 'n Go package.
  • R/T 392 Plus: 3,946 kg (8,700 lb).

Dodge Canada's 2027 Durango page calls its towing best in class, starting at 2,812 kg (6,200 lb) with the V6 and reaching up to 3,946 kg (8,700 lb) with the V8 when properly equipped. It bases that on the latest competitive information available for the 2024 IHS Standard Full Size CUV segment, excluding other FCA U.S. LLC vehicles. Each figure is a maximum for one configuration, so ask our team for the rating on the exact Durango you are looking at.

Manitoba Public Insurance's Trailer Safety brochure says trailer brakes are required by law when the trailer's registered gross vehicle weight is more than 1,360 kg (2,998 lb). Each Durango figure above is well over that, so a trailer loaded toward any of them needs its own brakes. Our Durango towing capacity guide sets out the 2026 ratings; for a 2027, ask our team for the rating on that unit.

Seats and Fuel

Seats. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 SXT seats five and the GT seats seven. The June 3 release lists seven passenger seating on the R/T 392 Plus, or six with the Blacktop Redline package. Seat counts on the other models change with packages, so our Durango seating capacity guide sets them out model by model, and the window sticker shows the count on a given Durango.

Fuel. Natural Resources Canada publishes fuel consumption ratings by model year in its fuel consumption ratings search tool. Our Durango fuel economy guide walks through the 2026 ratings by engine.

The Manitoba Read

Here is how we would walk a buyer through the choice across the desk at Dunn Ram Trucks in Portage la Prairie.

Start with the seats you fill. Five people fit the SXT. Once there is a third child, a car pool to practice or grandparents along for the drive to the lake, the GT's third row earns its place.

Then the trailer. Weigh the trailer loaded before you pick an engine. Under 2,812 kg (6,200 lb), a V6 Durango properly equipped for that rating can do the job, so ask our team for the rating on the exact unit; a heavier camper for the Whiteshell or a boat for Lake Manitoba is where the HEMI V8 figures above come in. In winter the load is often a snowmobile trailer or an ice fishing shack, and the same check applies before the first trip.

Then the winter. All wheel drive helps a Durango get moving on a glazed field approach; winter tires help it stop and steer. We are a participating retailer in the MPI Winter Tire Program. Manitoba Public Insurance says qualifying tires must display the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake symbol and, effective October 1, 2026, "must also be designed and marketed solely for winter driving conditions, including snow and ice." Tires marketed as all weather, all season, four season or year round no longer qualify, even with that symbol. Ask our team about the program's financing; Manitoba Public Insurance sets who is eligible. According to Stellantis Canada, the 2027 SXT comes on 18 inch wheels and the GT on 20 inch wheels, so the winter set you shop for starts from the tire size on your Durango's door placard.

Then the cold mornings. A Durango that lives outside at minus 30 needs a plan for the morning. Before you sign, ask our team whether the unit's window sticker shows an engine block heater. Our service department installs block heaters, and you can book the installation with our service team.
