Dodge Durango Seating Capacity by Trim

Dodge Durango seating capacity is five or seven on most of the lineup, and six only with second row captain's chairs. Dodge Canada's 2026 trim cards list the SXT at five seats and the GT and GT Plus at seven, so the trim decides whether a third row comes with the Durango at all. Before you browse new Dodge Durango inventory, read the seating line on each window sticker, because two Durangos side by side can seat a different number of people.

If seven seats is the goal, our Dodge Durango GT guide covers the trim where the third row starts. Below: seats by trim, third row room, cargo behind each row, and where car seats and boosters fit in a Manitoba family's week.

Key Takeaways

  • Five or seven on the 2026 cards. Dodge Canada lists the 2026 SXT at five seats and the GT and GT Plus at seven.
  • Six means captain's chairs. Stellantis Canada lists second row captain's chairs with the 2026 R/T Blacktop Redline package (May 29, 2025 release) and among the 2027 SRT Hellcat options (June 3, 2026 release). The 2027 release also lists six passenger seating with the R/T 392 Blacktop Redline package and as one of the Jailbreak's three seating configurations.
  • The 2027 SRT Hellcat starts at five. The same release gives it a standard five passenger configuration.
  • Third row legroom is 850.9 mm on Dodge Canada's 2026 GT card, about 33.5 inches by our conversion.
  • Cargo runs from 487.1 litres to 2,409.8 litres on Dodge Canada's 2026 cards, behind the third row and with the rear seats folded.

Durango Seats by Trim

These are the seat counts the Canadian sources print. The 2026 figures come from Dodge Canada's Durango models page, and the 2027 figures from Stellantis Canada's June 3, 2026 release. A Durango of either year has its own seating line on its window sticker.

2027 SXT and GT. Stellantis Canada's release says Durango GT models add 20 inch wheels and seven passenger seating, so the GT is again where seven seats come in. The release prints no seat count for the 2027 SXT, so read the seating line on its window sticker.

2027 GT HEMI and R/T 392 Plus: seven seats, or six with Blacktop Redline. The release lists standard seven passenger seating on the GT HEMI and seven passenger seating on the R/T 392 Plus, and its Blacktop Redline package for the R/T 392 brings Nappa and suede performance seats with six passenger seating.

2027 SRT Hellcat: five seats standard. The release lists a standard five passenger configuration, with second row captain's chairs among the available options.

2027 SRT Hellcat Jailbreak: five, six or seven. The release lists three seating configurations, five, six and seven passenger, including a new six passenger black Nappa and suede option.

Six or Seven: Captain's Chairs Against the Bench

Dodge Durango interior showing second row seats and the third row bench

A bench seats three across the second row. Captain's chairs seat two, one in each outboard position, and give up the middle seat to do it. That is the whole trade: one seat for a second row where two kids are not sharing a cushion, and a gap between the chairs on the way to the back.

On the Canadian sources read for this post, captain's chairs are named for the 2026 R/T Blacktop Redline package, in Stellantis Canada's May 29, 2025 release, and for the 2027 SRT Hellcat models, in its June 3, 2026 release. The June 3, 2026 release also lists six passenger seating with the Blacktop Redline package on the 2027 R/T 392. If you want them on another Durango, ask our team whether they can be ordered on your build, and check the seating line on the sticker of any Durango you are looking at.

Third Row Room in Numbers

Dodge Canada's 2026 GT card prints these measurements without a unit; they read as millimetres. The inch figures are our conversions.

Front legroom. 1,023.6 mm, about 40.3 inches.

Second row legroom. 980.4 mm, about 38.6 inches.

Third row legroom. 850.9 mm, about 33.5 inches.

Third row headroom. 960.1 mm, about 37.8 inches.

Third row hip room. 1,077 mm, about 42.4 inches.

The third row is the tightest row by every measure on the card. Before you buy, sit in it yourself with the second row set where your second row passengers will actually want it, and bring along whoever will ride back there.

Cargo Behind Each Row

Dodge Canada's 2026 cards give two luggage figures for each trim without a unit; they read as litres, which the 85.1 cubic foot maximum on Dodge Canada's Durango page confirms. The cubic feet are our conversions, except the maximum, which Dodge Canada's own page states.

Behind the third row, seven seat GT: 487.1 litres. That is the Luggage Volume row on the GT card, with all three rows in use. About 17.2 cubic feet.

Behind the second row, five seat SXT: 1,226.1 litres. That is the Luggage Volume row on the SXT card, which has no third row. About 43.3 cubic feet.

Maximum: 2,409.8 litres. Both cards list it as Luggage Volume (Max), and Dodge Canada's Durango page describes up to 85.1 cubic feet of cargo space.

The GT card does not give a separate figure for the seven seater with only the third row folded, so on a seven seat Durango, fold the third row on the lot and load what you actually carry.

Car Seats, Boosters and the Manitoba Rules

Manitoba Public Insurance's Driver's Handbook says: "Provincial law requires children to remain in booster seats until they're at least 145 cm (4'9"), 36 kg (80 lb.) or nine years old." In a family with three kids under nine, that can mean three child seats across a row or spread over two.

The same handbook says: "The safest position for a car seat is the vehicle's rear middle seat." A Durango with captain's chairs has no second row middle seat, so a family planning around that position wants the bench.

Which Durango seating positions carry lower anchorages and top tether anchorages is set out in the child restraints section of the owner's manual for your model year and seating layout. Read it there, then fit your own car seats in the exact Durango before you sign, and ask our team whether they can point out the anchorages on that vehicle.

Three Manitoba Families, Three Answers

Three kids in hockey gear in February. Hockey season is already under way, and by February the bags, sticks and skates fill a cargo area fast. With seven seats in use, the space behind the third row is 487.1 litres on the 2026 GT card. The GT's third row is a 50/50 split folding bench, so folding one half on rink days is worth a try with your own bags before the snow stays.

The car seat and the stroller. An infant seat in the second row, a toddler in a booster and a stroller in the back is a full load in any season. Check that the third row is still reachable with the car seat installed, and that the stroller fits behind the third row when it is up.

The grandparents in the third row. The run from Portage la Prairie to Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada Highway is about 85 km each way. With 850.9 mm of third row legroom against 980.4 mm in the second row, consider seating the grandparents in the second row and moving the kids back for the highway.

When the Grand Cherokee L or the Pacifica Fits Better

If second row captain's chairs are the deciding feature and you do not need a V8 for towing, compare the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Our Durango and Grand Cherokee L comparison sets out which Grand Cherokee L trims were listed with captain's chairs, and where the Durango's HEMI towing ratings pull ahead.

If the honest need is more seats and more cargo than a Durango offers, the Chrysler Pacifica is the answer. Chrysler Canada's 2026 Pacifica page lists standard seating for up to seven, with available seating for up to eight, second and third row Stow 'n Go seats that fold flat into the floor, and a maximum cargo capacity of 3,979 litres with both rear rows folded. It also lists power sliding doors on the Select. Our Chrysler Pacifica trim levels compared walks through the lineup, and you can see new Chrysler Pacifica inventory beside the Durangos.

Yes, on some models. Stellantis Canada's May 29, 2025 release lists second row fold and tumble captain's chairs with the 2026 R/T Blacktop Redline package, and its June 3, 2026 release lists them among the 2027 SRT Hellcat options, with six passenger as one of the Jailbreak's three seating configurations. Where do car seats go in a Dodge Durango?

In the back seat positions that the child restraints section of your Durango's owner's manual shows with the anchorages your car seat uses. Manitoba Public Insurance's Driver's Handbook says "The safest position for a car seat is the vehicle's rear middle seat," and a Durango with captain's chairs has no second row middle seat.

The Bottom Line

Dodge Durango seating capacity comes down to the trim: five on the SXT, seven from the GT up on Dodge Canada's 2026 cards, and six only with captain's chairs.
