Jeep Compass Fuel Economy in L/100 km

Jeep Compass fuel economy for 2026 is 8.9 L/100 km combined, 10.0 in the city and 7.5 on the highway, on regular gasoline. Those are Natural Resources Canada's ratings for the 2.0 litre turbocharged four cylinder, and Jeep Canada prints the same city and highway figures for each trim its 2026 models page details. On a full 51 litre tank, the combined rating works out to about 573 km, our arithmetic. When you know how that fits your driving, you can browse new Jeep Compass inventory by trim.

If fuel is the first line on your list, our Jeep Compass versus Toyota RAV4 comparison is honest about where the hybrid wins. Below the ratings: tank range, the Trailhawk question, and what a January commute from Portage la Prairie to Winnipeg does to the number.

Key Takeaways

  • One rating covers the 2026 Compass. Natural Resources Canada rates it at 10.0 L/100 km city, 7.5 highway and 8.9 combined, on regular gasoline.
  • There is no front wheel drive version to compare. Natural Resources Canada's 2026 file has one Compass row, the Compass 4X4, and Jeep Canada lists all wheel drive on every trim its 2026 models page details.
  • The tank is 51 litres, by Jeep Canada's 2026 models page. That is about 573 km on the combined rating and about 680 km on the highway rating, our arithmetic.
  • The Trailhawk carries the same official figures. Its all terrain tires and Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 system are not rated separately, so measure your own.
  • Cold weather can raise the number on any Compass. To size it on yours, note the litres and kilometres over two fill ups in January and two in July.

Natural Resources Canada lists the Compass 4X4 with a 2.0 litre four cylinder and an eight speed automatic, and prints its combined figure as 32 miles per imperial gallon. Jeep Canada's 2026 Compass page lists the engine as a 2.0 litre turbocharged four with Stop/Start, at 200 horsepower. Stop/Start is designed to shut the engine off while the vehicle is stopped, so it is not burning fuel at idle; your owner's manual explains when it engages.

For a 2025 or earlier Compass, look up that model year in Natural Resources Canada's fuel consumption ratings search tool.

Front Wheel Drive or Four Wheel Drive

On a 2026 Compass the choice does not come up. Natural Resources Canada's 2026 file carries a single Compass row, the Compass 4X4. Jeep Canada's 2026 models page lists the Sport, North, Altitude and 85th Anniversary with all wheel drive and the Selec Terrain traction management system, and the Trailhawk with all wheel drive plus the Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 system. Whatever trim you choose, the rating you are reading is the four wheel drive rating.

Tank Size and Range

Jeep Canada's 2026 models page lists a 51 litre fuel tank for each trim it details. On the combined rating that is about 573 km from full to empty, about 680 km on the highway rating and about 510 km on the city rating, our arithmetic. Running close to empty is a poor plan in a Manitoba winter, so treat those as the outside edge, not a trip plan.

The Trailhawk and Its Tires

White 2026 Jeep Compass on a rocky trail

Jeep Canada's 2026 models page lists the Trailhawk on P215/65TR17 all terrain tires, where the Sport and North run P225/60HR17 all season tires. Neither the tires nor the low range system shows in the official numbers: Natural Resources Canada rates one Compass, and Jeep Canada prints the same 10 L/100 km city and 7.5 highway for the Trailhawk as for the other trims.

So the tire is the variable the ratings do not split out. If you drive a Trailhawk on its factory tires, measure your own number over a few tanks. Once any Compass goes onto winter tires for the season, the factory set is off the vehicle, and your January figure reflects the winter set rather than the trim. Our Compass Trailhawk guide covers what the Trail Rated hardware adds and who really needs it.

The Portage to Winnipeg Commute in January

Most of a drive from Portage la Prairie into Winnipeg is the Trans-Canada Highway, so the 7.5 highway rating is the closer guide, with the city rating taking over once you are inside the Perimeter. Say your round trip is 170 km a day, an example figure. At 7.5 L/100 km that is 12.75 litres a day and about 64 litres over a five day week, our arithmetic, which is more than one 51 litre tank.

What the Cold Adds

Natural Resources Canada's Auto$mart fact sheet on cold weather effects on fuel efficiency says: "Drivers should expect higher fuel consumption in winter conditions." Its page on factors that affect fuel efficiency cites U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that a drop in temperature from 24 to 7 degrees Celsius can increase fuel consumption in urban commutes by 12 to 28 percent.

The highway figures on that page are smaller. It says cold, dry winter air increases highway fuel consumption by about 1.3 percent, which on the example commute is about 0.17 litres a day, our arithmetic. It also says a litre of winter gas typically has 1.5 to 3 percent less energy than a litre of summer gas.

The road itself is the bigger unknown. The fact sheet says snow and road cover make the engine work harder against rolling resistance, and that U.S. EPA data show fuel consumption can increase 7 to 35 percent because of poor road conditions. It adds: "The exact losses due to road conditions are difficult to quantify because of the many variations in climatic conditions, driving conditions, terrain, vehicle type and driving style." A blowing snow morning west of Headingley is that kind of variation, so measure your own.

Remote Start and Idling

If your Compass has remote start, it is a comfort on a minus 25 morning in Portage, and it is also idling. The fact sheet says: "Ten minutes of idling burns 0.25 to 0.50 litres of fuel and emits 600 to 1 200 grams of CO2, depending on the vehicle and conditions." It also says: "Idling for more than 30 seconds has no benefit for the vehicle." By that figure, ten minutes on each of five workday mornings is 1.25 to 2.5 litres a week, our arithmetic, before the Compass has moved. Use remote start the way your owner's manual directs, long enough to clear the glass, then drive gently while it warms.

A Block Heater on a Timer

Natural Resources Canada advises: "For best results, put your block heater on a timer, set to turn on no more than 2 hours before you start the engine." Use yours the way your vehicle's manufacturer directs. If your Compass does not have one, our service department installs block heaters, and you can book a block heater installation.

Winter Tires and Tire Pressure

The fact sheet notes that tire pressure fluctuates with temperature, and Natural Resources Canada says tires under inflated by 56 kilopascals (8 psi) can increase fuel consumption by up to 4 percent, so check yours against the pressure on your vehicle's tire information label. We are a participating retailer in the MPI Winter Tire Program, and Manitoba Public Insurance sets who qualifies and which tires are eligible. Our service team can book your seasonal tire changeover.

Measure Your Own Compass

Fill the tank to the first click and reset the trip meter. At the next fill, divide the litres you put in by the kilometres on the trip meter and multiply by 100 for your L/100 km. Do it on two fill ups in January and two in July and compare the two averages. The difference is what a Manitoba winter costs your Compass, on your roads, with your trips.
